I have taught undergraduate level history courses and tutored high school Latin. My grasp of Greek and Latin not only qualifies me to teach these course - from the elementary levels to advanced - but has also given me great experience writing, reading, and grading exams so I can teach skills related to reading, writing, and building arguments.

I have been successful on standardized testing, with a 5 on AP English Composition, 4 on AP US History, 710 Verbal/720 Math (5.5 Writing) on the GRE. I truly love the time I spend teaching. Personality/Teaching Style: I'm a very outgoing person. I am a creative thinker, but am still very logical and methodical. When teaching, I try to account for the fact that everyone learns differently. This includes how they remember facts, understand material, and the speed at which they learn. Such an approach requires a great deal of patience and flexibility on my part, but I am quite capable of doing this. I believe that good educators enable students to do more than just memorize facts, that they should teach them to be able to apply their knowledge in order to gain a better understanding of what they are learning.

i'm graduating in may from duke university with a major in cultural anthropology, a certificate in human development, and a minor in psychology. my gpa is 3.87.

Experience:

i taught a summer camp in china...dunno how useful that'll be here :) not much tutoring experience but i'm good at helping people understand things.

even though i'm graduating with a degree in the social sciences, i spent the majority of my life - and the first part of college - in math and sciences. i have a 1530 on the sats (that's before the new system), 5 on ap biology, 4 on ap chemistry, and 5 on ap calculus bc. i took orgo and calculus bc in high school, and higher calculus in college - although i wouldn't count on remembering THAT stuff (there's a reason i switched majors!) :)

anyway - i also have good reading comprehension and analytic skills for anybody who needs someone to bounce ideas off about philosophy or anything like that.

i'm a pretty good writer. i've gotten awards in the national scholastic writing awards twice. i'm also writing a thesis for my honors distinction in anthropology. you're welcome to a sample if you'd like.

i hope to work for a year or two before applying to grad school for anthropology. that's my first love. i have a dog, lily, who is moody and depressed. we have a love/hate relationship, but the love runs pretty deep.
