Experience

My name is Long. I am passionate actuary who passed 3 actuarial exams. I have two bachelor degrees, one in Engineering and the other one in Finance. With strong foundation in Math, I believe I can help you deal with all kind of Math problem. I am working as a tutor more than 2 years and meet a lot of students with various backgrounds. To understand what problem each student has is not easy. Therefore, I usually conduct assessments in order to know which level students are at. Thanks to this, I can give students knowledge and math problems not too far from their level. It is showed that students get the best progress when working at their level. Through my education, math is always my favorite class. My students, however, usually doesn’t like math. There are so many reasons why students are not interested in Math. But the most popular one is surprisingly, that they are not good at basic Math, even college students who are taking Calculus. For this reason, when students take higher Math class, they feel like everything doesn’t make sense and Math is so complicated. Within two years working as a Math Tutor, I guided a plenty of students gain a strong foundation in Math as well inspire them to like Math more. Another problem for students when they study Math comes from textbook. The Math concept itself is not as complicated as it is describe in textbook. The definitions, explanations an even examples cause confusion in students because of rambling language. Being as a tutor, I have to find ways to explain complex concepts in a simplified manner to students, helping them understand these concepts as easily as possible. However, the purpose of tutoring is not just helping students understand one single concept or solve Math problems but instruct them gain an ability of studying independently. It is showed that after have some lessons with me, students become more interested and confident in Math. What makes I like to become a tutor is to see my students can study independently, read, research and improve their grade by themselves. The courses I am tutoring: Algebra, Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, Statistics, Financial Accounting, Principles of Finance, Basic C++.
