Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA
Education
Recent Temple University honors graduate with a BS in Neurobiology and a minor in Math. I received a distinction in my major and had a cumulative GPA of 3.97. I was awarded the Diamond Research Scholarship (2015), the Andrea Broad Biological Sciences Scholarship (2014), and the Dean's Scholarship (2013). I was also on the Dean's List for academic achievement every semester of attendance.
Experience
I've tutored privately since 2011 and I tutored at Temple University's STEM tutoring lab during my senior year. (References upon request) My philosophy: Students often become discouraged and disengaged in learning when the material doesn't make intuitive sense. My job is to help them understand the principles underlying what is being covered in class which enables them to construct a clear picture of how everything relates and circumvents the need for rote memorization. Once they fully grasp the fundamental concepts, they can transfer that knowledge to novel situations (ie homework or future sections) and, as the tutor, I get to see their confidence and interest grow (my ultimate goal for every student). These two elements are what drive active learning because they inspire self-motivation and academic curiosity. This positive approach to learning will help students flourish in college and succeed in any job field.

Hobbies
My current job is as a Patient Care Assistant at a veterinary hospital in Philadelphia. My goal is to apply to veterinary school in the fall of 2018 to matriculate for the fall of 2019! Tutoring is a side job that I've kept up with because I love interacting with my students and watching them flourish. Outside of "work", I enjoy throwing functional pieces on the ceramic wheel (bowls, mugs, plates, etc), swimming, running, taking my dog for walks, biking, reading, baking (my co-workers love me since I bring in all the baked goods I make!), sudoku puzzles (can't do crossword puzzles, my grandma beats me every time), watching documentaries and comedy's (who doesn't like The Office?), learning about new topics (my current interests are in learning the programming/statistical language R since it might be useful in my future endeavors!), and crocheting (I beat my grandma at this so does that give me bragging rights? ... i think not...). And of course I love animals. Besides for my dog (named George), I adopted a cat 2 years ago named Emma. There's something about the human-animal connection that just fascinates me to no end (hence my career of choice).
