EducationI hold a Masters degree in Secondary Education (GPA 4.0/4.0), and before that I graduated summa cum laude (GPA 3.83/4.0) from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Hispanic Studies. I have taken university-level classes in Economics, German, Math, Art History, Psychology, Spanish, Cognitive Science, Communications, Communicative Literature, Health and Societies, Marketing, Anthropology, Statistics, Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Physics, and Geology.
ExperienceI have been tutoring for over 8 years, and I have tutored almost all subjects as well as SAT prep. I tutored for over four years at Academia Education in California (www.academiaeducation.com), where I tutored everything from history (U.S. & European) to English, Spanish, basic biology and basic physics. I have experience working with ADD/ADHD/dyslexic/partially autistic students as well. Three summers ago I taught two SAT classes (a total of 15 students) and 5 private tutoring students in SAT for Revolution Prep (www.revolutionprep.com). All of my students improved their scores, ranging from scoring in the 900s on a first practice exam to 1700 on the real SAT, to bumping students who were scoring in the 1800s - 2000s to above 2100. I scored 2340 (780M, 780CR, 780W) on the SAT and scored a 5 on the following APs: Biology, Calculus AB, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, Art History, European History, U.S. History, and Literature, as well as a 4 on the AP Chemistry exam. I taught high school Spanish for two years as well. I absolutely love tutoring - teaching is one of my greatest passions. I am very patient and understanding with students, and I would love to help you, your son or your daughter with whatever subject they are having difficulty with.
HobbiesI love camping and backpacking. I hiked the John Muir Trail in California, a three-week long trip of roughly 220 miles. I played soccer my whole life and now play in an adult league in Philadelphia. I enjoy swimming, although I don't get to go very frequently because my current gym does not have a pool. I like running, although more in the summer when it's not so cold! I also enjoy cooking new recipes. Lastly, I grew up with dogs and love them, and would like to get one eventually.

I was tutored by Ms. Bigony for the subject of AP Psychology. I was very worried about the AP exam and was in need of a lot of help to review key concepts and test-taking/study skills for psychology. I began taking sessions with Ms. Bigony and they were a tremendous help. For every session she came prepared with materials to best prepare for the exam and especially those that were I personally needed. She is very willing to recognize and work with your needs. She certainly is very knowledgeable about psychology and is very effective at teaching it. Not only did I become well versed in the subject of psychology, but she is also an effective mentor of test taking and study skills. Prior to studying with Ms. Bigony I expected a 3 or 4 on the exam, but after our sessions I felt confident going into the exam day and in July I was notified that I received a 5 on the exam. I really owe that to the teaching of Ms. Bigony and I would highly recommend her as a tutor for any student.
Michelle is an excellent tutor. She tutored my son for his AP Psychology. Three months before exam, we were in panic mode as our son was not ready for May exam. But Michelle tutored him for few weeks and gained his confidence. After first meeting, gave a structured plan for each session. Arrived promptly for each session. Very professional. Another good thing we liked was: My son submitted some of the past tests for her review / checking. She was very diligent in checking and giving her comments on Essay Questions, which helped a lot. I strongly recommend her to other parents.
