Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA

Education

University of Pennsylvania graduate with a bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering and a minor in mathematics; Temple University graduate with a master's degree in education and a PA certification to teach secondary mathematics

Experience

I taught middle and high school mathematics in Philadelphia for two years and have been working as a private tutor since January. I also tutored students regularly after school and on weekends during the years I was a teacher. As an undergraduate I studied advanced mathematics topics such as calculus IV, differential equations, and linear algebra as well as physics, chemistry, multiple fields of engineering, quantum mechanics, and nanotechnology. I also obtained my master's degree in education after completing several courses on teaching theory, psychology, and the history of mathematics. Lastly, I scored highly on the SATs with a verbal score of 730, a math score of 740, and math SAT II score of 800 (there was no writing exam when I was in high school), and I've prepared students for the math portion when I was a teacher. When asked why I love tutoring, my answer's easy: it doesn't even feel like a job for me! This is a practice I truly, genuinely enjoy, and I've never been more passionate about a line of work. It's incredibly rewarding for me to help students overcome obstacles, understand mathematics concepts that had been challenging for them, and accomplish their academic goals. The one-on-one format of private tutoring is especially fulfilling because it allows me provide individualized instruction to each student, which in turn lets me hone in on the specific problems they're facing and adjust my teaching style to best meet their needs. I gained a lot of experience helping students with widely varying backgrounds and interests when I was working for the School District of Philadelphia, and it's been a pleasure applying what I learned as a private tutor. I wouldn't trade this profession for anything.

Hobbies

I love listening to music, playing video and board games, spending time with my friends in the city, exercising, and reading about current events.
