James F.
Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA
Education
I received a BA in English and Sociology from La Salle University in May 2011, graduating magna cum laude. Currently, I am in graduate school, working towards a Master's degree in Business and Professional Communications.
Experience
I was a Secondary Education minor for one year, but had to withdraw from this field for personal reasons. I spent time student teaching at my alma mater, Northeast Catholic High School. A professor of mine once said, "The best way to learn writing is by doing it." Writing simply for academia is not the way to accrue the skills necessary to be a successful writer. While many students dread writing, it is important that we understand writing will be necessary to succeed both in the classroom and in the business world. Aside from basic academic writing [e.g. research papers and close readings], I have worked in the fields of creative, business, and legal writing. I also have worked in website design. Now that I have graduated, I write on a freelance basis. Here is some of the work I have been doing while in graduate school: I have written and edited documents for non-profit organizations. I have written press releases for La Salle University Media Relations. This past October, I published my first article in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
