Cornell University - Bachelors, Human Development , University of Pennsylvania - Current Grad Student, Urban Education
I recently graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in human development, as well as a minor in education and a focus on cognitive development and social and personality development. I like to take a holistic approach to teaching and learning, where students aren't encouraged to prepare for upcoming tests, but rather gain important life skills and learn how to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom. I believe that learning isn't something that should be limited to formal education, but rather a life-long process that students should be inspired to undertake. In addition to traditional teaching methods, I also attended a child diversity and development program in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I was able to learn a wide range of new techniques to apply in the classroom. I believe that the best way to succeed as an educator is to create a calm and welcoming learning environment where everyone feels secure and motivated to learn. I also believe that it's important to plan your lessons in a way that utilizes a wide range of activities and teaching aids, so that every type of learning style is catered to. When I'm not in the classroom, I like to spend my free time traveling abroad, writing, and reading books.
