Experience
I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the country of Costa Rica for over two years. I went there knowing the bare minimum of Spanish. After my volunteering experience, I was had become a fluent Spanish speaker. I believe this is because I spoke the language every day, with others who were native speakers. This experience gave me a knowledge of methods that work well for learning Spanish. It also showed me what is important when it comes to learning a language, with the goal of using it in real world applications. While I was in Costa Rica, I was tasked with getting the children of the area interested in learning. I learned, working in an elementary and a high school, that there is no single approach that fits everyone when it comes to learning. Teaching involves finding out learning styles of the student and deciding upon a strategy that will help them succeed in their goals. I am experienced and competent in tutoring students from younger elementary school age all the way up to adults who may have little to no educational background. In addition to my time in the Peace Corps, I also attended Temple University. In my free time, I enjoy reading, music, soccer, and travel.
