Experience
To me, the best thing about tutoring and teaching is helping people to learn new things - I love watching the 'lightbulb moment' when a tricky concept finally clicks in a student's mind or when they come up with a new idea or interesting question. I have tutoring and teaching experience with multiple subjects and educational levels. Here are examples of my past tutoring experience: - Team-taught a summer cell biology course for high school students - Team-taught a summer physics and programming course for middle schoolers - TA for a Microbial Ecology undergraduate course, where I guided students through laboratory exercises and taught principles of the scientific method, microbiology, and ecology - Worked in a math and science after-school program where I tutored a small group of students in high school chemistry - Worked one-on-one with elementary schoolers to develop English and math skills Relevant coursework: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal and Population Biology, Microbiology, Parasite Ecology, Invertebrate Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I and II, and Biochemistry SAT score: 2230 I scored a 5 in AP Biology, Physics, Chemistry, AB/BC Calculus, and US History. I have a year and a half of biology research experience, including as a postbaccalaureate at the National Institutes of Health. I use the breadth and depth of knowledge that I've gained from my research experience to help my students master the subject.
