John C.
Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA
Education
BA in Biology (Departmental Honors) and Plan II Honors (Liberal Arts Honors Program) from the University of Texas at Austin I worked as a research assistant in a biochemistry/molecular biology lab all four years of college and a year after college, for a total of 5 years. I've also mentored in freshmen research labs, as well as other undergraduates in our lab.
Experience
I have a multitude of tutoring experience ranging from private tutoring to companies including Sylvan Learning and Thinking Caps. I've also tutored students from middle school to college. As a tutor, I focus on building a connection with the student and establishing a foundation of proper study skills and time management. I believe that the best way a student learns is through teaching, thus I integrate "teach back" exercises within our tutoring sessions. I also ask questions that go beyond the cursory knowledge provided by the textbook, to allow the student to synthesize the information. I understand that science and math can be incredibly difficult for a student to grasp, but it is my hope as a tutor to excite the students and share my passion for the field.
