Experience

During my undergrad, I was employed for two years as the Senior Writing Fellow at the University of Delaware. The Writing Fellows Program at UD is designed to supplement writing courses by providing trained writing tutors to work with a class each semester. The Writing Fellows pride themselves on making better writers, and not just better papers. We were trained in tutoring techniques that go beyond simply proofreading, editing and commenting. Instead, we strive to give students authority over their own work, and we use methods that help to impart long-lasting skills, such as: powerful brainstorming, pre-writing techniques, crafting strong theses, thesis development, and effective organization. As the Senior Writing Fellow, I not only tutored students, but mentored a group of 30 tutors on pedagogy and techniques. I bring this same wholistic teaching philosophy to any subject. I believe that critical thinking and deep engagement are the best ways to truly learn. Therefore, I strive to move beyond rote memorization and instead focus on fun, interesting, and creative interaction with subject matter. I am certified as an English Teacher for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In 2014, I lived in Santiago, Chile, where I worked as an English teacher for adult professionals including doctors, lawyers, journalists, and even college students. The experience of teaching someone who cannot speak the same language taught me how to break the learning process down into it's most basic elements, which are understandable to anyone. In addition to honing my tutoring skills, living in South America helped me to understand first-hand what it takes to master the Spanish language! Below, I will list some of the tests I have taken, along with my scores: SAT - 2160 GRE - Verbal: 165 (95th percentile); Quantitative: 160 (78th percentile); Writing: 5.5 (97th percentile) AP Calculus - 5 AP Statistics - 5 AP Physics - 4 AP U.S. History - 4 AP Spanish - 3

Hobbies

Besides tutoring, I also work as a freelance Audio-Visual Technician. I am interested in computers, technology, and culture. I am an avid music lover, constant concert goer, and play several instruments myself (guitar, banjo, bass). I love art of every kind, and in my free time I enjoy photography, painting, poetry, and creative writing.
