Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA
Education
I got my BS in biochemistry from Boston College in 2011 and graduated with a GPA of 3.73. I graduated with honors and completed an independent thesis through the honors program in the biology department. I am currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Pennsylvania applying for an emergency medicine residency.
Experience
During college, I taught classes on health topics in public high schools throughout the greater Boston area and managed a group of teachers. I also tutored in my spare time, working mostly with high school students. From 2011 to 2013, I worked as a full-time teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools in Atlanta, where I taught high school biology. I started medical school at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall of 2013 and am currently a fourth-year student there. I scored a 37 on the MCAT (a 98th percentile score), a medical school admissions test that assesses knowledge of physics, organic chemistry, verbal skills, and biology. I have worked on independent research projects in a variety of venues, including at Merck and Co., Inc. and within the biology department at Boston College. I received a grant during college to study x-ray diffraction techniques at UCLA Keck School of Medicine, and completed an independent thesis on the crystalline properties of amyloid-beta protein, which has been implicated in the progression of Alzheimer's disease. My experience with the sciences includes strong academic preparation, extensive research, and a body of teaching experience. I'm currently conducting research on the opioid epidemic as a research fellow at the Center for Emergency Care and Policy Research.

Hobbies
I've played the piano since I was about 3 years old, and love most types of music. I practice hot Bikram yoga at a local yoga studio and enjoy running. In my spare time, I like to explore restaurants, events, and other attractions throughout Philadelphia. I have walked El Camino de Santiago, a long trail in Spain, and spent the past summer (2014) working in a hospital in Paris. I managed a group at Penn called LGBTPM+ the first two years of medical school. I'm training for the Philadelphia half marathon in November!
