Experience
I earned my master's degree from Syracuse University, in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture. At the same time, I had the opportunity to work as a teacher of numerous undergrad Spanish classes. I independently taught a grammar and a conversation class each semester, with guidance from the program coordinator. I found that I really enjoy teaching, and have been told that my style is very caring towards the students. Because I've gone through learning a foreign language, I can empathize with the difficulties faced by my students, and I always focus on their best interests. I like to use activities during tutoring that help my students remember what they learned in all five language skills, which are reading, speaking, writing, listening, and culture. This holistic approach gives my students the ability to effectively communicate in Spanish, whether spoken or written. We practice using subjects that they can relate to, such as their own life experiences and scenarios they could encounter any time. I find this to be very effective. When not working on Spanish or tutoring, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and backpacking.
