Experience
I have tutored honors students in college prep programs, and disabled students in homeless shelters. It has been my experience that with a bit of creativity, I can inspire anyone since all students have the ability to learn. The challenge and reward is in determining a student's learning style and providing an environment where they can thrive. I teach my students specific strategies in test preparation, writing, and improving their grades. I have taught rural, suburban, and urban students how to study, learn, and reach their goals. I find it particularly fulfilling to help students of all ages with English literature and writing. My students have been very successful in improving their critical reading test scores. Through my tutelage, they have expanded their vocabularies as well. For ten years, I have been a tutor and teaching artist. I obtained an Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Art from Vermont's Goddard College. I also attended the College of Liberal Arts at Penn State, University Park, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English with Honors in African and African American Culture. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading about different cultures, politics, and the arts. I also enjoy gardening and yoga.
