Experience

-Having been accepted into two Ivy League schools, I know what it takes to write an admissions essay that will catch the eye of admissions officers! I work with students to choose the best essay prompt for them and then work with them throughout the writing process - from brainstorming to editing every draft - in order to ensure a polished and outstanding admissions essay. - I also have 4+ years of experience teaching the verbal section of the SAT (classes and one-on-one tutoring). I am familiar with every strategy needed to master the Critical Reading portion of the test, and work with students to master the grammatical concepts they will need to know to ace the Writing portion. - I also work for Educational Testing Services as an SAT essay rater, so I know first-hand what it takes to write a high-score SAT essay.

Hobbies

I have always loved working with young people! I enjoy finding out what makes each student tick - what they they enjoy, what they are good at - because I believe it helps me understand and motivate them. I have found that every student is unique, and that what works for one student may not work for another! Therefore, I take my lead from the student, and try to tailor my teaching to best suit his or her needs. In addition, I know first-hand the academic pressure that many students experience, so I try to lighten the mood (and remind them what their end goal is!) and make sure they are really engaged in what I'm teaching them. If they are not engaged in what they're learning or do not see the point, then I'm doing something wrong as a teacher!
