Experience

Are you getting ready for your trip to Italy and want to learn enough about Italian language and culture to ensure that your travels will be most pleasurable and memorable? Do you wish to begin or deepen your knowledge of Italian language and culture because you are of Italian descent or because you have fallen in love with Italian language and culture? I would be delighted to help, as I am passionate about sharing my love for and knowledge of Italian language and culture. I have greatly enjoyed teaching Italian language and culture courses at the University of Pennsylvania and Vassar College, Upstate NY, for the past three and a half years. This experience has given me the basis to develop highly effective tutoring skills. Prior to working in academia, I held curatorial and educational positions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Venice Biennale Foundation. My lifelong passion is art history and while I remain active in the contemporary art world as a scholar, critic and curator, I have become increasingly invested in teaching Italian language and culture, perhaps because I miss my home country so much and find this a powerful way to remain connected to it.

Hobbies

I moved to the US from Modena 12 years ago to pursue my Ph.D. Modena is thirty miles west of Bologna and is most famous for the balsamic vinegar (believe it or not, all balsamic vinegar comes from Modena!). It is also famous for being home to Ferrari, the company that manufactures the namesake luxury sports car. The region, Emilia Romagna, is known for its culinary traditions and delicious food products—from lasagne to tortellini, prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Maybe because of the great food, people are generally very friendly and joyful. I am very much a product of the city and region I come from. I love cooking (and eating!), and have an outgoing and upbeat personality.
