Experience
Two principles help guide my approach to tutoring:People must learn at their own pace. An instructor needs to have patience and understanding in order to teach effectively.Practice makes perfect. Students need to not only study theory and concepts but also apply them in a learning exercise or problem. My experience includes teaching English to high school students and one-on-one tutoring in reading and language arts. Teaching writing skills is a challenge that I embrace - seeing students learn how to express themselves through their writing is very satisfying. I have also worked with ESL students, and I love teaching social sciences such as American history and comparative government and politics.I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, and I have a bachelor's degree in English literature and secondary education from Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. An art lover, I spend part of my spare time visiting art museums. I am also an amateur photographer - I can develop my own black and white prints - and I recently took up screen printing. I very much enjoy traveling (Spain, Portugal, and Italy are the places I would like to visit next), and I love reading. I especially enjoy historical fiction and biographies.
