Education

I am a Chemical Engineer, currently working towards my PhD degree at Villanova University. I got my Chemical Engineering degree in Spain, where I am from, but after my year as an exchange student in Philadelphia, I couldn't help feeling that I wasn't done learning, and decided to come back to the states for Graduate School. I started tutoring back home during my sophomore year, and in only a few months, I convinced a student who hated chemistry, to start a degree in chemistry himself. Since that first student, I've been helping many others who struggle with math and sciences, not only to pass their classes but to find the beauty and the interest in the sciences that they all seem to hate at the beginning. I've tutored different levels of calculus, algebra, statistics, physics and chemistry, from high school to a college level. As I became a PhD Student and started being a Teacher Assistant, I saw it clear: my passion in life is to teach. I love helping students, transmit them my knowledge. But I specially like making kids enjoy while they learn sciences and trying to convince them that science is cool. However, I cannot fulfill this only with my Teacher Assistant job, since the classes are big and the relationship with the students is not so close. That's why I am looking forward to start tutoring again, and have that one to one time with the student, when I transmit to them the passion I feel for science.

Hobbies

As almost any other PhD student, I am a coffee lover, and promise myself every semester that I will go to the gym more often (and almost never succeed). I love hanging out with my friends and loved ones. At the end of the day, nothing (specially not the gym) makes me happier than a coffee or a dinner date with my girls, or a skype session with my brother, who is back home. But more than that, I love interacting with people making new friends. Knowing about what is going on in the lives of others and help them in every little struggle they have. I am co-president of the International Student Society at Villanova, and I love being the first person that students reach out to when they need help. Learning about their different backgrounds and cultures and seeing how everyone adapts differently to this country is amazing to me. I am also Secretary of a Graduate Engineering Club at Villanova. We organize social activities to make sure students do more than staying in their labs working. Having friends is as important as having good grades, as it can affect our mental health and the way we approach difficulties on our pathways.
