Education

I graduated in 2014 from Swarthmore College with a BA in Sociology and Anthropology, and a minor in Spanish. I also have a High School Regents Arts Diploma in Creative Writing from the School of the Arts in Rochester, New York. 3.6/4.0 GPA. Outside of my major and minor areas of study, I have completed extensive coursework in Political Science and Education.

Experience

I have extensive experience in tutoring and teaching children ranging in age from 8 to 16. On the SAT, I received a 720 for Reading, 630 for Math, and a 730 for Writing. Before college, I worked at an organization dedicated to teaching and fostering a love for creative writing within its students, working on everything from short story creation to poetry to playwriting. While at Swarthmore College, I worked as a teacher's aid in a 6th grade History classroom in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, as a classroom aid and observer in the Boston Public City School District, as an instructor at an after-school center for immigrant children in Madrid, Spain, and as an assistant teacher at a Mexican cultural center in South Philadelphia. I also privately tutored non-native English speakers in English as a Second Language while studying abroad in Madrid, mentored and taught children interested in Creative Writing, and provided supplementary Spanish tutoring for fellow students while at Swarthmore. I believe that good teaching promotes self-sufficiency, critical thinking, and curiosity among students, and that it is key to the struggle for social justice.

Hobbies

When I'm not writing a blog post, photographing an interesting event around town, or working on a radio piece, I can usually be found biking, baking, reading fiction, or dancing to my favorite jams. I could also spend hours talking about indie movies or soul music, visiting art museums, or hiking treacherous trails. I've had the privilege of traveling quite extensively, and am always down to swap travel stories with the brave-of-heart!
