I attended Hanover High School in Hanover, NH and graduated with a GPA of 3.98/4. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania studying linguistics and archaeology. My GPA at Penn is 3.85. I plan to go on to graduate school in one of these fields to eventually become a researcher and college professor.
Experience
Back in high school I tutored informally for peers who struggled in Writing and French. Now that I am in college, I tutor French (beginner through advanced) through the language direct program at Penn and ESL and writing skills at Penn's Wharton School of Business. These jobs have given me experience adapting to different learning styles and academic experiences. My coursework in linguistics gives me a unique perspective on foreign language learning and English grammar that other tutors can not provide. I have found this to be especially useful in explaining concepts of French grammar that may not come naturally to English speakers. As a dedicated writer (I was recruited by the writing program at Penn) I am able to help my students express themselves clearly and eloquently in their writing whether that's a tenth grade English report, a college essay, a French paper or a masters thesis. I believe very strongly in the importance of strong writing and verbal skills as the foundation to any successful education and career and strive to help my students accomplish their goals in these areas. Hobbies
I have many interests and hobbies outside of tutoring! I love dance and am the captain of Penn's Irish dance club, a member of Penn's Swing Dance club, and an active participant in the Philadelphia blues and argentine tango dancing communities. I also love creative writing, fine arts, and horseback riding.
