Private tutor in Philadelphia, PA

Education

I earned a BA in Sociology from Temple University; at Temple University I minored in exercise science. I also earned a MA from the Optimal Performance (aka Wexford University) Institute in Applied Exercise and Sport Psychology. I earned certified writer status with the Guardian Liberty Voice as well.

Experience

I owned a private tutoring studio for 5 years. I helped Ivy League students obtain Master's Degrees and numerous elementary thru high school students improve grades scores by 2 letters or more. I am a credentialed substitute teacher who is good at what I do. I feel it is imperative that students learn and not just go through motions; after all, it is the student's life and society that will suffer at some point as a result of wasted efforts. I am a successful published author on Amazon and certified writer with a major online newspaper. I also run and contribute to several successful blogs. Students will improve with my services because I know what it is like to feel left behind or too feel ashamed among peers because I just did not get it. No student should have to endure the mental anguish of feeling inadequate. Sometimes all that is needed for the student to achieve is a bit of tough love merged with gentle tweaks here and there to help the student realize his or her talent for learning was there all along with by developing an approach best suited to the individual student.

Hobbies

Getting off the sidelines and engaging in life with others is what I like most to do. Whether that means piloting a yacht with friends and family to no destination in particular or entertaining fans by catching the third out in right field as a semi-pro baseball player or leading a classroom full of students to new discoveries...I say, "please bring it on!" The unfortunate thing about many students of today is they often do not know how to properly study. Studying new or unfamiliar material requires a system of taking grading steps to mastering any concept. Just like someone wanting to lose 50 pounds would fail drastically unless he or she takes the steps necessary to gradually build their regimen to the point where the mind and body has no choice but to respond. The same concept holds true for academics. In the classroom and due to limited time and resources teachers cannot slow the curriculum to fit the needs of students that require more time. Therefore, a good tutor will guide the student gradually to fill those "challenge-gaps" and teach the "whys" so that the student becomes more confident and capable not just to complete the task at hand, but also to complete future tasks.
