Education

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Spanish from the Pennsylvania State University.

Experience

For the past ten years, I have been studying Spanish and have been sharing my passion by tutoring students for the past 5 years. I am truly passionate about helping teach anyone who would like to learn more about the language and culture. In college, I studied abroad throughout Spain and earned a Bachelor's in Spanish. Since then, I have continued to travel to several Spanish-speaking countries to immerse myself in the culture, enhance my fluency and better understand dialectical differences. I have worked with students ages 4-45 for over 5 years. I worked as a teaching aide and substitute teacher in a K-12 charter school in 2009 and have extensive experience working with each student's individual needs. As a part time tutor, my goal is to facilitate academic, social, and individual growth for my students; while building an appreciation of bicultural/bilingual understanding. I create individualized lesson plans based on my students' experience levels and learning styles. Aside from my passion for language, I am equally passionate about healthcare. Currently, I work full-time for a Department of Defense global healthcare contactor. I try to instill my passion in my social life as well through volunteer experiences. Most recently, I traveled to South America this past summer supporting a project serving children with special needs. My main role was to assist in daily activities to stimulate learning and promote positive social interaction for Spanish speaking children with mental, physical and psychological disabilities in a pediatric rehabilitation facility in Conocoto, Ecuador. In 2009, I traveled to Honduras to volunteer with licensed medical professionals to provide comprehensive health services to communities with limited access to healthcare. To support the organization, I coordinated and participated in fundraising events through the Penn State Chapter throughout my junior and senior year in college.

Hobbies

In my free time, I love to cook, travel and spend time with friends and family! I am also really into crafts, love photography and making scrapbooks. When I don't have the resources to travel to volunteer, I also like to get involved locally in the Philadelphia area. I've been involved with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure since February 2012, as a team captain. I recruit volunteers, coordinate and manage our team website and activities, set fundraising goals and facilitate fundraising events. Every year, we participate in the annual Susan Komen 5K to support the Philadelphia Affiliate. Additionally, I was a volunteer at Parkwood Therapeutic Riding Center. In therapeutic riding, horses are used as a tool for building communication skills, physical capabilities, social skills & emotional growth. My primary role as a volunteer was to assist children ages 5+ with developmental disabilities and/or brain damage to facilitate physical & cognitive function through equine related therapeutic activities.
