Experience
Since 2010, I've been a teacher at Olney High School in Philly but I was laid off over the summer (exasperating budget cuts). Good History teachers are definitely undervalued - especially since the school reform movement and it's emphasis on STEM. If your child is having any issues at all in any type of History class, I certainly can help them. Whether their problem is lack of understanding content, inability to focus, low motivation, I've had years of experience facing all these challenges and I have proven strategies that can help. I am especially good at figuring out how to relate the subject to the student and make it interesting. Your child will develop their own intrinsic motivation as they understand History on a deeper level and as a result, their reading and writing skills will dramatically improve along with grades. Our first meeting will be free just to make sure we are a good match.

Hobbies
Different cultures, sports (soccer, hockey, golf) animals, literature, and my family. My wife and I are five weeks away from our first baby so we are super excited for our little girl. Her mother is Brazilian so I know for a fact she is going to speak Portuguese (we both speak it at home), but I'm secretly hoping she'll also be a future soccer star and History buff. If you think I'd be a good fit for your child, thank you. I think it's an honor to teach kids and I believe it's the most important profession in the world and I take it very seriously. My entire life is focused on learning new things about the past and the world and figuring out ways to bring that knowledge into the classroom to enlighten and enliven students. Obrigado, Matt
