Education
I just finished my Ph.D. in Psychology (social and personality), before which I earned a Master's degree in Educational Psychology.
Experience
I have been passionate about studying, researching, and teaching psychology for all of my adult life. After getting my B.A. in Psychology, I went on to get an M.A. in Educational Psychology while lecturing an Ed. Psych. course designed for college students who wanted to become teachers (2 years). Next, I earned a Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology, which I financed in part by acting as a teaching assistant for a variety of college Psychology courses (6 years). As a teaching assistant, one of my main responsibilities was to hold office hours and meet with struggling students to help them with course content. In my conversations with students, one theme that kept coming up was that the intuitive nature of psychology is actually a double-edged sword. When students come across ideas in class that jibe with their ideas about how people work, they get a premature sense of “yeah, I get it”, that prevents them from grappling with those ideas to get the appropriate amount of nuance. A second theme that kept coming up was that students who are struggling are often working very hard, but are using very limited study strategies. That’s why it has become very important to me to coach students in study skills as well as course content.

Hobbies
I guess I can be considered a food snob (though I prefer "gourmand") and Corgi enthusiast. Having been raised in a forested area of Northern California, I enjoy just about any activity that involves the outdoors.
