Education

University of Tennessee, 2012: Biology Major and English Minor, 3.16 GPA Villanova University, 2015: Masters in Biology, 3.91 GPA I started out in Tennessee -- East Tennessee is where I grew up. I knew from high school that I wanted to study biology, because I enjoyed my AP Biology course so much. I concentrated in Ecology -- studying the movement of nutrients and water through the carbon and nitrogen cycles in ecosystems, and learning how plants respond to changes in temperature. I also minored in English, and studied American Literature and creative writing, a particular passion of mine. After college, I worked with the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico, and later with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. I moved to Philadelphia in 2013 to pursue a Masters in Biology at Villanova University, still studying ecology. I researched the effect of sea level rise on salt marsh grasses and trees in Florida.

Experience

I've tutored during my college years, I've taught introductory college biology, and most recently, I've tutored for grades 5 thru 12 with the Homework Bar and Lounge in Bala Cynwyd. I enjoy helping students master their classes, and I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing students grow into their potential, whether they're entering middle school or struggling through college courses.

Hobbies

I've been a self-identified bookworm since the day I learned to read. Okay, maybe not the exact day, but the point is, I love to read. At its core, I think a love of reading is a love of learning. I always learn something from a book, fictional or not, whether it's the swarming instinct of bee colonies or a philosophical dive into human nature. I impart a little of my excitement about learning new things to all of my students. In addition to reading, I take a lot of photographs, I go for hikes, and I write creatively.
