Experience
Hello! My name is Emma, and I hope I'll have the opportunity to tutor you. My past experience with tutoring includes high school algebra and geometry/trigonometry, which I did while finishing my undergraduate degree. During my graduate studies, I worked as a teaching assistant for graduate-level Epidemiology. I found it very enlightening, because I was able to work with students ranging in age from 20's to 50's, all with different backgrounds and life experiences. I enjoy tutoring mainly because I get to meet so many different people, each with their own story. It reminds me that learning doesn't end after an exam or a graduation, it's truly a lifetime accomplishment. I am interested in tutoring for two reasons: 1. To earn some extra money in my spare time (of course). 2. I've developed an interest in teaching, and I believe that increasing my experience with tutoring will help me determine whether or not I should pursue a degree/career in teaching. I took AP Calculus in high school and got a 5/5 on the exam, then took two semesters of Calculus in college and aced those as well. I received an SAT score of 660/800 (88th percentile) on the Mathematics section of the SAT, and a 680/800 (72nd percentile) on the SAT subject test for Mathematics level 1. I took Epidemiology and Biostatistics in graduate school and received an A- in both courses. I took AP Biology in high school and scored a 5/5 on the exam, took the SAT Biology (Molecular) Subject Test and received a score of 760/800 (92nd percentile). I majored in Neuroscience for my undergraduate degree, which is a sub-topic within the realm of biology. The curriculum for my Neuro degree included many biology-centric courses, ranging from microscopy to genetics to microbiology and both organic and inorganic chemistry. I was in the Honors program at Temple University, I was on the Dean's list, and I graduated with Distinction in my major. As for reading/writing/grammar, I received high marks in every English and Literature course I took throughout high school and college. I scored a 700/800 (95th percentile) on the SAT Critical Reading section and a 750/800 (99th percentile) on the SAT Writing section. I'm eager to begin working together with you to help you achieve your learning goals!
