I have experience working with a wide range of students. I served as an arts instructor for elementary school students at a public school in Harlem, New York and also served as a teaching assistant for a Columbia biology laboratory course. I really enjoy being able to work one-on-one with a student. This way, I can get to know and understand him or her so that I can adapt my teaching style and instruction for that particular student. I gain a great deal of satisfaction by being able to help a student succeed at the material that was previously difficult. I also appreciate the opportunity to be able to share my enthusiasm for a subject with students who are struggling with that topic and hopefully enable them to see the value of it and be able to enjoy the material. Relevant classes (all college level): University Writing, European Literature I & II, Masterpieces of Western Art, Twentieth Century Art Matriculated to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh Recipient of DAAD Study Scholarship to do interdisciplinary research in Germany for one year Research assistant at Duke University Medical Center Coordinator and instructor of Artists Reaching Out, a community volunteer arts teaching program

Hobbies
I love working with students and am very energetic and enthusiastic about teaching and learning. I have a strong background teaching both young students (elementary school, art lessons) and also older students (college, biology). I love learning for the sake of learning and hope to encourage that same mentality with the students whom I work with. I am personable, patient, and open to all learning styles and interests. I was an art history and visual arts major and love everything art related. Painting, drawing, and especially ceramics are some of my favorite media to work with. I also devote a good portion of my time to creative writing and am currently working on a fiction piece. In addition, I am reading constantly and love music, especially jazz and opera. I would describe myself as creative and quirky, adventurous and excited to try new things, visit new places, and meet new people. A few fun facts - I used to be a competitive baker for the North Carolina State Fair (I love to bake bread!). I also play the harp!
